I feel like the art of literacy, books, the joys of libraries, bookstores, and getting lost in the pages of a story are being lost in recent times. I have loved books since I was a child and as an adult I still am always reading. I find that there is so much time to disassociate and distract ourselves that we often miss the messages in front of us. That being said, this year I am committing to reading two books a month. One for knowledge, professional development, or a deeper understanding; and one simply for fun, pleasure, and enjoyment. Now I know what some of you might be thinking, books can get expensive or maybe you don't have space, or feel like you can't make the time. You can, it's all about figuring out what works best for you. If you're always busy or on the go maybe go with audiobooks and sign up for audible so you get one or two a month with your subscription instead of buying them individually. If you don't have the storage space, get used to Ebooks they are cheaper, take up less space, and easier to access although not my favorite. Subscribe to SCRIBD for access to as many books as you want monthly; Ebooks, audiobooks, articles, and illustrations included. That is the most cost effective route. Kindle unlimited is cool too however, I find that most of the books I want I end up having to purchase or download on SCRIBD. Whatever works for you find a method and stick to it. I honestly do a mixture of all of them.
Now as far as subject matter goes I love a good astrology book, I enjoy diving into spiritual psychology, and self help. I also love me some good fiction especially urban fiction, romance, and even some science fiction like Octavia Butler. If you haven't read Parable of The Sower by Octavia Butler I would highly recommend it. There are so many hidden messages about todays society, God, self realization, and evolution not just in that book but really in all of her novels.
This next year 2023 is really all about inner work, discipline, and mastery. The number 7 carries the energy of the lasting endurance of God, the spiritual channel for balance, wisdom, grace, and harmony, and aligning with your divine purpose. 2022 taught us how to heal emotional wounds, see the beauty in the world around us again, and appreciate the love we do have despite the flaws that it came with. 7 brings the remaing truths and asks us to really assess what we are leaving behind for good in order to make space for the reconstruction or resurrection to be experienced at 8. 7 reminds us of the eternal nature of creation and asks us to take charge of the cycles instead of becoming victim to them.
For this reason I am starting a bookclub this year and I hope you all will join me. The booklist below is filled with titles to help deepen your awareness, understanding, and knowledge of self. They will also assist you in building actionable systems for forward movement, and aid you in letting some things go to make room. Sacrifice will be a key theme if 2023 and I want to invite you to sacrifice some of your time to read with me.
